Oak Hill Cemetery Mausoleum...

This is the outside wall of the Garden of Memories Mausoleum in Evansville's largest cemetery, Oak Hill. You may want to click on the image below to see it better with a larger view. Note: that Roy Allen Buckner is next to Paul & Margaret Quick (to the right of his crypt). Roy was an old buddy of mine at Willard Library and a distant cousin on my Dad's Buckner line. Roy had been doing a lot of research on the Buckner family and shared most of it with me before he died. Now, coincidentally, Margaret was a Witty and another cousin of my father's. As far as I know, Roy & Margaret were not related, however. But here is where more comes into play... my wife Becky's birth family has a line of the Quick family that Paul was from, in fact, Paul Quick is Becky's birth father's first cousin!!!

From the FIRST MATE's
PHOTO ALBUM...

This bench was on display at a vendor's booth at the Indiana State Fair last year. I thought it would be nice to show here to kick off the 2010 Fourth of July weekend. Play safely with fireworks, drive safely and do not eat too much! Try to learn one new fact about your family this weekend.

Willard Library's Special Collection Display...

is at the top of the stairway landing to the 2nd. floor Special Collections Department for Genealogy & History. Each month there is a new display and they generally try to make a display for special events like "Midnight Madness" that Vannetta McDowell put together.
When you visit Willard, take a look at the display case and let the librarians know you liked the display.

Click on photos for larger images. Below is a closer look at the spike.
The plaque is right in front of this Engine 1416 at the museum. If trains interest you, Evansville Museum is a place to visit!
