You may have noticed some changes on our floor. We’ve recently purchased two new computers and two new Canon 300 ii microfilm readers/scanners.There should be fewer mechanical breakdowns and interruptions due to refilling paper or toner. If you haven’t tried using the new readers, don’t let them intimidate you. One of our staff members will be happy to show you how they work." I used the new system today and they were great; and, as Peggy reported, the staff was happy to teach me how to use it... if I can do it anyone can. Poor Vannetta was stuck with having to teach me... she is patient and a good teacher!
From the Hart County Kentucky Genealogy Interest Group (powered by MyFamily.com)... Ruth Rogers passed along an interesting site that works like wikipedia--but is for genealogy! The site is called Encyclopedia of Genealogy, a free-content encyclopedia created by its readers. The Encyclopedia of Genealogy is available to everyone, free of charge. Last night's NBC TV show "Who Do You Think You Are?" with Rosie O'Donnell was quite interesting. She followed her Murtagh family back to Ireland and learned of her family's suffering during the potato famine. At the very end she and her brother walk into an Irish pup in Ireland "Murtagh's Corner!" A few more photos from the TSGS Annual Dinner Meeting...
Harold Morgan was our guest speaker. He gave a very interesting slideshow "Evansville During the Depression."
Program Chair Mary Lou Bevers introduced our guest speaker.
Before the program began, TSGS President John G. West welcomed everyone and presentend TSGS Certificates of Appreciation to Don Counts (photo at the Dinner did not come out). Don is holding his certificate in photo below. Don was recognized for his significant contributions to the TSGS Cruiser Blog. Don is a former TSGS President & currently serves as a Director of the TSGS Board.
In the photo below, someone made a comment that made us laugh! Connie Conrad was just presented a TSGS Certificate of Appreciation by John West for her on-going work in the Posey County, Indiana courthouse records. She has enlisted several people to help her and has worked several years on indexing, scanning and organizing files. She is making a significant contribution to Posey County researchers! [Bettie Cummings Cook, past TSGS President, is seen to the left in this photo.]

2010 TSGS Annual Dinner Meeting...
With a good turn out and a great speaker, last night's event at Sirloin Stockade was enjoyed by all. In the first photo below, I had just presented Don Counts with a TSGS Certificate of Appreciation for his numerous contributions to the TSGS Cruiser Blog. From March 2009 to March 2010, Don made 40 significant contributions! In all 41 people sent in contributions during this period for a total of over 160 daily blogs which represented about 52% of the blogs that were published during that year time span! The other 48% came from me as blog master with the bulk of that as TSGS news. I am very pleased with the number of people who helped with the blog. Three others were mentioned as major contributors: Chris Myers, Linda Young-Niemeier & Taneya Koonce.
We recognized Brenda Jerome with a TSGS Certificate of Appreciation for her contributions to the Tri-State Packet and her 12 contributions to the TSGS Cruiser Blog. Three others mentioned who contibutes articles to the Packet were Larry Goss, Carol Bartlett & Gilbert Schmitt.
A Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Connie Conrad for her significant contribution to the genealogical world with her organizing & indexing records in Posey County, Indiana. Connie listed several of the people present that has helped her on this monumental project: Don Pierce, Janet Mann, Deb Travers, Vannetta McDowell
Below is pictured our guest speaker, Harold Morgan, and Claudette Pfingston (who sent me these photos). Mr. Morgan a noted local historian, lecturer, and author presented a very interesting slide program, "Evansville During the Depression."
The TSGS 2010-11 Officers Nominating Committee announced a partial list of the slate of officers and that they are seeking nominees for Secretary & Program Chair plus a few more Board Directors. If you are interested in serving or have a suggestion of someone contact any on the committee: John West, Doug Korb, Bettie Cook or Don Counts.

I know that may be a time when folks are more worried about finishing their taxes than anything else, so please feel free to send your submissions in early!!! lol I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

The Indiana Genealogical Society's 2010 annual conference will be Saturday, April 10 at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne. Dick Eastman, author and creator of Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter, will be the featured speaker. Registration at the door will be $40 each. The Indiana Genealogical Society will hold a Seminar on Friday, April 9 at the Allen County Public Library, in conjunction with the 2010 annual conference. The theme of the seminar is "Preservation From The Bottom Up." Topics will cover preservation on the personal level, as well as the society, county and archive levels. The Allen County Public Library's Genealogy Center will be open from 6 pm to midnight on Friday, April 9 for conference attendees.

No Small Change by David Ferriero, U.S. Archivist, he is the head of the National Archives and Records Administration. It is an interesting article and I find it especially interesting that the Archivist is using a blog in an attempt to directly reach the audience that his agency serves. He refers to himself as "Collector in Chief." David Ferriero's blog may be found at http://blogs.archives.gov/aotus/
The Pew Research Center recently published a report, “The Impact of the Internet on Institutions in the Future,” in which it found that 72 percent of experts agreed with the statement: By 2020, innovative forms of online cooperation will result in significantly more efficient and responsive governments, business, non-profits, and other mainstream institutions. That optimism agreed to by the experts indicates their belief that the internet will prompt institutional change...

At yesterday's TSGS Board Meeting, it was decided, at the invitation of Willard Library, to Co-Sponsor the Tree Roots Workshop later this fall.
The 2010-11 Nominating Committee appointments were announced by the President: Brenda Jerome (Chair), Don Counts, Bettie Cook & Doug Korb. They will soon be asking members to serve in offices.
The Board will recommend at the May regular membership meeting that we will change the meeting start time from 7:30 PM to 7:00 PM in order for the library to close up a little earlier. If accepted by the members present this will begin at our September meeting the first meeting for 2010-11.
Come join us at our April 13th. Dinner Meeting at Sirloin Stockade on Bellemeade near Green River Road. Harold Morgan (Historian, Speaker, Author) will present "EVANSVILLE DURING THE DEPRESSION."

About 25 years ago I suggested that we give Certificates of Appreciation to TSGS members for promoting the society, genealogy or other related activities. Usually the President of TSGS prepares these certificates with signatures, dates and recipient's name. This year Karin Kirsch was the TSGS President and was passing out the certificates to several deserving members. Mary Lou Bevers was being recognized, but the certificate was blank... e veryone got a big laugh out of it and later the signatures, date & Mary Lou's name was inscribed!
