Marker/Plaque/Monument Monday

[Day 2 Lion's Head Location Clue/Hint: The building that it is on display is not well known as a meeting place... maybe because it is "bugged." See TSGS Cruiser Blog ~ http://tsgsblog.blogspot.com/2011/05/guess-where-this-lions-head-is-located.html]
.

Along the banks of the Ohio River is this monument & plaque in memory of Mt. Vernon's first Cemetery (1816-1973). This is in Posey County, Indiana.

Oak Hill Cemetery Superintendents

'

Newly updated plaque
(last update was 30 years ago)

The plaque for a listing to honor the city's Superintendents of Oak Hill Cemetery was updated 30 years ago when the Cemetery board started a new plaque... the older one faces visitors as they walk into the office building. This past Monday, Superintendent Chris Cooke sent out photos to everyone listed. They were beginning to combine the two city Cemeteries in Evansville under one Superintendent when Jack Jones held the position. When they combined the two they created a new position called Cemetery Manager and I was the first to hold that title and officially manage both cemeteries after the two had been separate for about 135 years. When I left in early 1987, the job title went back to Superintendent. So, I was possibly the shortest tenure Cemetery Head and the only one to be Manager. It is an honor to be listed on the plaque. The cemeteries had a lot of problems that needed correcting or resolved when I started and before I left all was turned around... I am very proud to have that opportunity to resolve those problems and return these 2 large cemeteries back to the status they deserve.

Marker/Plaque/Monument Monday

Hose House #9...
is one of Evansville's newest fire stations located on Keystone Drive.

It was built in 1989, just north of Morgan Avenue & east of Green River Road.

A very large "9" helps to identify this building, perhaps the smallest in size.
The fire fighters proudly fly the U.S. flag out front of the building. It looked very beautiful the morning this photo was taken!

"Chalet Dedication at Burdette Park 23 July 1993"

.
At Burdette Park there are 5 very nice chalets ...

I have wondered about the dedication of one chalet for a long time, it is the only one with a thin metal plate that has tarnished somewhat. Here is what it says: "Dedicated to David S. Garrett July 23, 1993." I asked about him about 10 years ago and someone on the Burdette staff said that he was an employee who had died in an accident. Recently, I was at Burdette Park and noticed the plaque and took a picture of it with my new cell phone (below).
I checked the online Browning Database to see when he died and maybe what happened to him. Garrett died on a Sunday 07 Mar 1993 from a motorcycle accident onUS 41. He was 32 years old. He was an ironworker and carpenter at Burdette Park.
