Other News...

This will be our last meeting until September after all of the summer vacations are over. The society membership has voted to start our meetings at 7:oo PM starting with the September meeting.

It is time for membership renewals (please submit dues of only $12 by 01 Jul 2010). You can print out a renewal form from our regular web site: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~intsgs/join.html
We are still holding the cost of membership down as best as we can, while most genealogical societies are charging $20 or more.

By the way, we have a new Webmaster... Terry Winchester. He has been working hard updating some pages and improving navigation from page to page by providing a navigational bar on every page! Look for other improvements and additions. Be sure to let him know how he is doing and offer suggestions. It is very important to report to Terry any links that fail to work, so he can change the link - his email address is on most pages near the bottom.

Please consider sending in contributions for our members' quarterly journal,
The Tri-State Packet. The next deadline for contributions is July 15th. for the September issue!

Today is one of those rare days when there is two blogs for one day!

Just like our wide-eyed frog seems to be saying, "Oh my, I almost forgot our March TSGS Meeting is coming up this Tuesday night at 7:30 PM at Willard Library!"

I hope none of you forget. Spring is almost here and it is time to get out and enjoy some better weather with some warm sunshine. Yesterday on Facebook several of my friends were running out to take photos in cemeteries for Find-A-Grave... Vannetta McDowell, Christopher Myers & Cheri Baumberger. My West Y-DNA cousins were fine-tuning a time line of some information that we plan to research in depth to dig out new leads for our common ancestor (yet to be discovered). My earlier post today was about the 2010 National Genealogical Society Conference. Yesterday I posted my preview of the new NBC TV series called "Who Do You Think You Are?" with a link to watch it online if you missed it. Spring always brings out a new flurry of genealogical activity as it does bringing out leaves, flowers and wildlife.

So, why not attend this month's TSGS meeting? After a brief business meeting, we will break-up into 3 groups for general discussions on the following topics: Discussion Groups (choose one) A) Court Cases, led by Brenda Jerome, B) Posey County Research, led by Connie Conrad, C) Vital Records, led by Mary Lou Bevers.

Have you wondered where to find some of that documentation or "proof" for your family history? Bettie Cook will discuss some records that will prove your lineage and the type of information you can get from the listed records above.
Why are boundary changes of much importance to genealogists? How can you find out if your county had changes in its size?
I will lead a discussion concerning genealogical DNA testing. We will stay away from all of the technical jargon that speakers get caught up in... we will just talk about what testing results can tell you or not tell you.

Reminder that we have a TSGS Meeting Tuesday night (June 9) at Willard Library. there will not be a 6:30PM Help Session for this meeting. We will conduct the installation of the newly elected officers and we will vote on the 2009-2010 TSGS Budget. Keep in mind that we will not have Monthly meetings in July & August.

Our cool ClustrMaps Counter shows that our Regular TSGS Web Site has been visited by people from 31 countries with the USA now registering just over 2000 unique visits with Canada (10), United Kingdom (11) and Ireland (26) showing 10 or more unique visits. We have 13 countries with 2 or more visits. In the USA, our site has been visited by someone in each state except Maine & West Virginia. I am surprised that no one from West Virginia has not visited us since Dec. 14, 2008 when I started the ClustrMaps Counter.

From the FIRST MATE's
PHOTO ALBUM...

Celebrating the Capture of Fort Sackville
Vincennes Rendezvous
23-24 May 2009
Vincennes, Indiana

The re-enactment battles are really cool to watch. They have a Fife & Drum Corps that perform on the battle ground as well as throughout the park. The cannons set off all of the car alarms & the blast of the muskets make this event seem real. Soldiers representing England, France, Germany (to list a few) plus the colonist & Indians with women & children all dressed in period attire, makes this event a great family historical, educational & entertaining outing.

The above photo is of our Indiana Society Sons of the American Revolution's tent at the Rendezvous with a lot of Colonial flags. The red & green striped flag behind & to the right of the tent is the George Rogers Clark flag that they carried when his men captured Ft. Sackville. TSGS member, Becky West (dressed in a red top), is standing in front of the brochure table. Click on the photos to get an enlarged view.

TSGS had a great dinner meeting last night at the Sirloin Stockade with a nice crowd. Everyone seemed to have a great time. We recognized 3 individuals for their contributions toward the society's blog (TSGS Cruiser Blog that you are reading now). These three each were awarded a TSGS Certificate of Appreciation for being great TSGS Bloggers: Don Counts, Brenda Jerome and Chris Myers.

We had a very interesting program concerning the newly published book "Judge Lynch" written by Posey County Circuit Court Judge James M. Redwine. A huge list of microfilm was read off to those attending that will be soon available to everyone at Willard Library thanks to the Acquisitions Committee: Brenda Jerome (Chair), Mary Lou Bevers, Rena Goss.
